Frequently asked questions

Where does the carbon data come from?

The board reads from the National Grid ESO Carbon Intensity API, which provides forecast and actual carbon intensity for Great Britain at national and regional resolution.

Can I use this outside the UK?

The UK Carbon board is specific to the GB grid. For arbitrary data sources, the Custom Map board is more appropriate.

Do I need a smart meter?

No. The Carbon board shows grid-wide intensity, not your individual consumption. Pair it with the Octopus Energy board if you want tariff context.
